'Butterfly Friendly' Plants For Sale

ARISTOLOCHIA ELEGANS (CALICO FLOWER) - Foodplant for various Pachliopta, Parides, Papilio and Birdwing butterflies. Good for polydamas swallowtails but not recommended for pipevine swallowtail caterpillars or the Cairns Birdwing. These are approx 5 inch high seedlings, average of two seedlings per plug. Prices: £0.50 per seedling in plugs which each contain 1 - 4 seedlings. Price is for the number of seedlings NOT the number of plugs! Postage within the UK: £1.50 per 6 seedlings. ASCLEPIAS CLIMBER (MILKWEED) - Foodplant for Danaus species (e.g. Monarch butterfly). This unidentified species of Milkweed is recommended by the London Butterfly House for it's rapid growth and suitability as a butterfly foodplant. These plants are growing several inches a week and have very large leaves compared to other Milkweeds. Prices: £1.50 for a 6 inch high seedling or £2.00 for a 9 inch high seedling. ASCLEPIAS TUBEROSA (MILKWEED) - Foodplant for Danaus species (e.g. Monarch butterfly) and good nectar plant. This species of Milkweed is slower growing and has much smaller leaves than the Asclepias climber mentioned above. Perhaps more useful as a nectar plant than a larval foodplant. CITRUS SEEDLINGS (LEMON) - Foodplant for many Papilio species (Swallowtail butterflies). Good for butterflies to lay on even if you are using Choisya ternata or Skimmia for the later instars. PENTAS LANCEOLATA (EGYPTIAN STAR CLUSTER) VARIOUS COLOURS - One of the best nectar plants for butterflies. These seedlings are 2 months old and should flower in another month or two. These Pentas hybrids in various colours grow slightly slower than the pink variety. Prices: £2.00 for a 2 inch high seedling. Please add postage costs (within the UK) of £1.00 + £0.50 per plant.

PASSIFLORA EDULIS - Foodplant for Philaethria dido, possibly Heliconius cydno and others). Prices: £0.50 for each 4 inch high seedling in plugs which contain 1 - 4 seedlings each. PASSIFLORA MOLLISSIMA SEEDS - Foodplant for many Heliconius species including Heliconius cydno and Heliconius melpomene. I've tested these seeds myself and the germination rate was about 80% which is excellent for Passiflora seeds. Prices: £2.50 for 12 seeds plus £0.50 postage within the UK. - SOLD OUT
